The Democratic candidate for president is in favor of mandatory buybacks of semi-automatic firearms, universal background checks, and “red flag” regulations. However, her opponents are focusing on her prior support for these policies.
During their Tuesday debate, Donald Trump said that Harris would “confiscate everybody’s gun” if elected. In response, Harris stated that she and her running mate, Tim Walz, are gun owners.
“We’re not taking anyone’s guns away, so stop with the continuous lying about this stuff,” she stated.

Moderator Linsey Davis pointed out that Harris has changed his stance on a number of policy issues, including his opposition to a plan that would require gun owners to turn in their AR-15s and other assault-style firearms to the government.
At a rally in North Carolina on Thursday, Harris restated her position. “We who believe in the freedom to live safe from gun violence will finally pass an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and red flag laws.”.
