Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Peshawar this evening (Monday) before the sighting of the Ramadan moon.
Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, has asked all Pakistanis to look for the crescent, hoping that the holy month will begin on the same day across the country.
If the moon is visible, the holy month will start on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, additional zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will hold identical meetings on Shaban 29 after Asr prayers to commemorate the Ramadan moon sighting in Hijri year 1445.
According to the Met Office, the Ramadan moon is anticipated to be born at 2 p.m. on Sunday and can be seen today, when it will be more than 28 hours old.
The holy month, which is marked with religious fervour and fervor, will see millions of Pakistanis, as well as billions of Muslims worldwide, fast from sunrise to sunset, with fasting hours ranging from 12 to 17 hours — depending on geographical region.
Like many other nations, Ramadan in Pakistan is marked by increased charity and public food drives, with people setting up roadside kiosks for people coming home in the evening.
