There will still be a “unwavering commitment” to reach net zero by 2045, though.
In an update to Holyrood on Thursday, Mairi McAllan, minister for wellness economy, net zero, and energy, disclosed the action as part of the government’s next steps to address climate change.
The decision was made in response to a harsh assessment released by the Climate Change Committee (CCC) last month, which stated that the 2030 objective had now moved “beyond what is credible”.
Ms. McAllan stated: “We accept the CCC’s recent re-articulation that this parliament’s interim 2030 target is out of reach, especially in light of the challenging context of cuts and UK backtracking.”
