In the southern border city of Rafah, Zaki Shaheen, a former employee of the Gaza Health Ministry, has transformed his store into a temporary medical clinic to assist the sick and injured.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals have overwhelmed Rafah, escaping violence further north. “My whole life,” according to Shaheen, he has worked in emergency care.
He stated, “So we decided to open a medical department and we got help from the health ministry,” adding that the intention is to relieve the strain on hospitals that are already overworked.
We receive at least thirty to forty instances a day, from dawn to dusk. When someone arrives with a burn or injury while I’m sleeping, we tend to them.
