ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has overturned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to deny membership to Adil Bazai, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), for allegedly disobeying the party’s orders in the National Assembly.
A three-member court led by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, which also included Justices Aqeel Abbasi and Ayesha A. Malik, rendered the decision.
Additional proceedings were delayed until December 12 by the court.
On November 21, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq requested that Bazai, a Quetta lawmaker, be disqualified by the electoral commission. Bazai then appealed the disqualification to the Supreme Court.
In the past, the committee took action when PML-N President Nawaz Sharif charged that Bazai had disregarded party doctrine by supporting the opposition during the ratification of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
