ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the lawmaker’s appeal on Thursday, overturning the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to remove Member of National Assembly (MNA) Adil Bazai from office.
Bazai had earlier been disqualified by the ECP under Article 63-A in response to a plea submitted by Nawaz Sharif, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
After Bazai allegedly voted against party lines during the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the PML-N president moved the commission. He is frequently spotted sitting on the opposition benches, despite the NA’s website identifying him as a PML-N member.
Bazai, a Quetta congressman, sued the Supreme Court after the election panel disqualified him on November 21.
