ISLAMABAD: The government’s bid to let military courts to declare case verdicts was denied by the Supreme Court on Monday.
“Giving permission would mean recognising the authority of military courts,” said Justice Musarrat Hilali, one of the seven members of the constitutional bench of the highest court.
The bench is led by Justice Amin-Ud-Din Khan and consists of Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.
In addition, the court dismissed the petition filed by former Chief Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, which asked that the hearings of cases involving civilian trials in military tribunals be postponed until the 26th Constitutional Amendment problem was resolved.
Additionally, the court fined the previous chief Rs 20,000.
