LONDON: In a significant move, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has withdrawn a common assault criminal prosecution against the former close-protection bodyguard of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
The CPS informed Geo News in April of this year that it had made the decision to charge Nawaz’s driver and bodyguard, Farid Nemouchi, with the alleged common assault after he allegedly spat on Panzani Cheema, a reputable senior professional in the financial sector who works in London.
Nemouchi arrived in court today at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court with his criminal law expert attorney, Barrister Moeen Khan, to face the trial. However, the prosecution informed the court that it would not pursue the case and had made the decision to dismiss the criminal charges.
