According to a study by the Press Association using data from the Civil Aviation Authority, departures from the second-busiest airport in the United Kingdom were, on average, roughly 27 minutes late in 2023.
“Working closely with our airline partners to improve on-time performance” is how the airport put it in a statement.
Luton had an average delay of about 23 minutes last year, which put it in second place for least punctual.
The airport argues that the majority of delays are caused by events outside its control and maintains that the vast majority of its flights depart on time. It further claims that the average delay numbers are “not helpful” without context.
