After the House had approved the package on Saturday, the bill was passed by the Senate late on Tuesday by an overwhelming 79-18 majority.
Mr. Schumer stated on the Senate floor that the Senate was letting US friends know that “we will stand with you.”
Mr. Schumer and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell stated that if Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggressiveness is allowed to continue, it may have catastrophic effects on the United States and many of its friends.
Together, the two defeated what appeared to be unbeatable Republican resistance to the Ukraine help by working with House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican.
In a series of four votes on Saturday, the House approved the package, with the Ukraine section prevailing 311–112.
The $61 billion (£48.1 billion) for Ukraine comes at a time when Mr. Putin’s attacks have intensified and the war-torn nation is in dire need of additional weaponry.
