“Such interventions in Pakistan’s internal affairs violate diplomatic etiquette and could negatively affect Pakistan-US relations,” the Foreign Office of Pakistan said in a strongly worded letter to President Joe Biden from 60 members of the US Congress calling for the release of ousted Premier Imran Khan.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, emphasized during a weekly briefing that remarks about domestic matters in Pakistan are incompatible with the cooperative and respectful values that have traditionally characterized relations between the two nations.
According to Mumtaz Baloch, “the United States and Pakistan have a long-standing cooperative relationship,” “However, interference in our internal affairs through letters like this is not acceptable and undermines diplomatic decorum.”
