At midnight on Friday, funding for about thirty percent of the federal government, including housing, energy, agriculture, and veterans’ affairs, is set to expire.
Now that the bill has passed the House, it moves to the US Senate, whose members have promised to support it “with time to spare”.
But in only two weeks, the possibility of a government shutdown hangs over Congress once more.
After months of negotiations, House and Senate leaders reached an agreement on a comprehensive package of six funding bills, which was voted on by House members 339 to 85 on Wednesday.
The US House avoids a partial government shutdown by sending a $460 billion funding measure to the Senate.
In an effort to prevent a partial government shutdown, the US House of Representatives has voted to accept a spending package of $467.5 billion (£367 billion).
