According to the 88-page lawsuit, the California-based business is degrading its products for customers in order to exclude rivals.
The firm’s actions were characterized as “exclusionary, anti-competitive conduct that hurts both consumers and developers” by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
“Apple’s monopoly poses a threat to the free and fair markets that underpin our economy,” stated Mr. Garland.
“They hurt workers and producers, impede innovation, and drive up costs for consumers.”
“If left unchallenged, Apple will only continue to strengthen its smartphone monopoly.”
The success of the iPhone, in large part, is responsible for Apple’s net revenue, which surpasses the GDP of over 100 countries, according to the justice department.
