Pakistan called a U.S. official’s assumption that Islamabad would use its nuclear missiles for hostile purposes “perplexing as well as illogical” on Saturday.
The Foreign Office issued the following statement: “Pakistan has made it abundantly clear that our strategic program and allied capabilities are solely meant to deter and thwart a clear and visible existential threat from our neighbourhood and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.”
Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer, a senior White House official, stated Thursday that Pakistan is working on long-range ballistic missile technology that may one day enable it to attack targets outside of South Asia, including the US.
He claimed that Islamabad’s actions generated “real questions” about its motivations.
