Kennesaw, Georgia, possesses all the characteristics of a tiny Southern town.
The roar of a neighboring railroad train and the aroma of freshly baked biscuits emanate from Honeysuckle Biscuits & Bakery. In coffee shops, newlyweds often leave handwritten thank-you notes, complimenting the “cozy” ambiance.
However, there is another element to Kennesaw that may surprise some people: a city legislation from the 1980s that mandates that citizens possess firearms and ammunition.
“It’s not like you go around wearing it on your hip like the Wild Wild West,” said Derek Easterling, the town’s self-described “retired Navy guy” and three-term mayor.
“We’re not going to go knock on your door and say, ‘Let me see your weapon.'”
