Tim Burton directed Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton, along with Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, will reprise their roles in Beetlejuice.
Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Justin Theroux will all be included in the ensemble.
On August 28, the movie will screen outside of competition as the festival’s opening feature.
Burton declared: “This excites me much. The world premiere of my picture at the Venice picture Festival holds great significance for me.”
The director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbera, praised the film’s “surprising swing of creative imagination and driving hallucinatory rhythm” and stated it was an honor to be screened.
The horror-comedy’s 1988 original starred Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as a recently departed couple who were imprisoned in their former home alongside its new occupants.
As a result, they enlist the aid of “bio-exorcist” Betelgeuse to assist in driving the newcomers away.
Keaton will play Betelgeuse once more, Ryder will return as gothic rebel Lydia Deetz, and O’Hara will play her mother, conceptual artist Delia Deetz, while Davis and Baldwin will not be returning to the franchise.
