Those who supported Boris Johnson’s Conservatives in 2019 and participated in a two-week online community known as the Voters Panel were asked to explain why they preferred either Labour’s shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves or Tory Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.
With the Tories eager to portray Labour’s economic policies as risky and inflationary while they are the party of low taxes, the economy is expected to be the main topic of discussion during the election.
According to YouGov’s Voters Panel, Labour appears to be making some progress in swaying some undecided voters.
Twenty of the Voters Panel’s 29 Tory members favored Reeves as chancellor, while 29 supported Hunt, for a ratio of 3 to 2.
This contrasts with surveys of current Conservative supporters, who choose Hunt over Reeves 39% to 7%.
