ISLAMABAD According to sources who spoke to News, a crackdown is expected if the deadline for Virtual Private Network (VPN) registration is not extended. The deadline is this Saturday.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has registered over 27,000 VPNs ahead of the deadline.
Sources claim that the PTA has emphasized how important VPN registration is to improving cybersecurity and guaranteeing data protection and national security.
The IT sector and independent contractors are among the stakeholders who have been advocating for an extension of the registration deadline. According to reports, the Ministry of Interior is in charge of making this decision, which is now being considered.
However, a crackdown on unregistered VPNs is scheduled to start right away if the deadline is not extended.
