A well-known Gen Z climate activist with around 700,000 TikTok followers claimed to have met with White House representatives before to President Biden’s announcement that major LNG export projects will be put on hold.
“I started advocating to stop new LNG export terminals last year after learning of the level of pollution this type of fuel adds to the atmosphere,” Alex Haraus stated to Fox News Digital.
The U.S. already exports “enough” to allies, according to Haraus, whose TikTok videos on climate change frequently receive thousands, if not millions of views. Haraus further stated that new research suggests that LNG can have a dirtier carbon footprint than coal when burned, and that it doesn’t “make sense to poison more people with the pollution they put out just because more people are using it.”
When Haraus started posting videos on a regular basis in November, it was a warning against the federal government approving more LNG export terminals. These are projects meant to use American fossil fuel supplies to help the United States’ friends in Europe and Asia wean themselves off of Russian energy. Such projects’ proponents contend that they will reduce emissions, strengthen the energy security of allies, and boost the US economy.

However, Haraus claimed that the projects would increase emissions and exacerbate global warming in movies that were frequently shot from Louisiana, the site of the construction of LNG export facilities. In a video that went viral on November 27, he warned that “humanity will burn more, faster because of the U.S. unless we don’t build the terminals.” The video attracted over 137,000 views.
After he began sharing the films, Haraus claimed to have met with climate advisers from the White House and Gulf Coast environmentalists who were against the projects. Additionally, the Department of Energy (DOE) and the White House announced on January 26 that they had suspended all outstanding LNG export terminal permits due to concerns about climate change, seemingly giving in to the activists’ demands.
