A statement stating “Face control: White” appeared in the event’s advertisement, along with a clothing code that was exclusively for white persons. This interpretation was widely accepted.
The gathering was eventually deemed “a bad idea” by one of the organizers, who said that the purpose was to bring expatriates together.
The celebration that was scheduled for last Saturday was postponed.
The event was quickly met with criticism, with many people labeling it “disgusting” and “racist” on social media.
One local restaurant owner remarked, “I know not all expats are like this, but this sort of thing should be stopped fast and stopped hard.”
On Facebook, another social media user commented, “How dare they come to a brown country and ban the people of that country.”
A man claiming to be the event organizer wrote on Instagram under the username geo_ecstatic, saying that “no malice or racism” was involved in the party’s organizing.
“We were hoping to get together with long-time residents of Sri Lanka who are also expats. The crew… encouraged me, and we decided to throw a party as soon as possible,” he stated, adding that he was later forced to flee the nation due to a torrent of threats and abuse.
