The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday, October 29, that the most deadly disease in recent years is tuberculosis (TB), which has surpassed COVID.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement, according to Reuters, “It is shocking that TB still kills and sickens so many people, given that we have the means to prevent, detect, and treat it.”
As an infectious disease, tuberculosis typically affects the lungs. It spreads through the air when infected individuals spit, cough, or sneeze.
Approximately 8.2 million persons received a TB diagnosis in the previous year.
