While acting in Player Kings in London’s West End in June, the 85-year-old tumbled off the stage, shattering his wrist and cracking one of his vertebrae.
When asked about his intention to carry on acting, Sir Ian told news , “I shall just keep at it as long as the legs, the lungs, and the mind keep working.”
However, the actor clarified that he intended to “take the rest of the year off”.
The Hunt, a recent installment in the wildly popular Lord of the Rings series, features Sir Ian as Gandalf.
In 2026, Gollum is scheduled for release.
“I’m not letting anyone else put on the pointy hat and beard if I can help it,” Sir Ian said when asked about the prospect of making an appearance in the upcoming movie.
In the first three movies and The Hobbit trilogy, which were all directed by New Zealander Peter Jackson, Sir Ian portrayed Gandalf.
Andy Serkis is directing and playing Gollum in a new series of The Lord of the Rings movies.
“In a separate interview with the Big Issue, Sir Ian stated that his enthusiasm for The Lord of the Rings shows no signs of waning.”
