Putin commended Vietnam for its “balanced” attitude on the conflict in Ukraine in an opinion article that was released in conjunction with his arrival in Hanoi.
He claimed that Vietnam’s impartial foreign policy demonstrates “a pragmatic way to solve the crisis” in an article published in the Communist Party publication Nhan Dan.
On Thursday, he will speak with To Lam, the newly elected president, and Nguyen Phu Trong, the general secretary of the Communist Party.
“No country should give Putin a platform to promote his war of aggression and otherwise allow him to normalize his atrocities,” the US embassy in Hanoi declared in response to the visit, denouncing it.
This was the Russian president’s second official visit in Asia after agreeing to a “comprehensive strategic partnership pact” with Kim Jong Un during his time in North Korea.
The pact includes a mutual defense clause in addition to the stated coverage of investment, enhancing cultural connections, and collaborating on health, medical education, and science.
In an update later on Tuesday, a news agency explained the phrase, saying that both countries committed to offering all military support at their disposal in the event that the other side is subjected to “armed aggression.”.
Kim mentioned the “fiery friendship” between North Korea and Russia and said the agreement was their “strongest ever treaty,” while Putin referred to it as a “breakthrough document.” He then swore allegiance to Moscow in its conflict with Ukraine.
