Paris: The European Space Agency announced on Tuesday that the likelihood of an asteroid the size of a football field that might destroy a city striking Earth in 2032 has decreased to 0.001%.
According to NASA and the ESA, the asteroid had a 3.1% and 2.8% chance of striking Earth, respectively, setting a new record just a week ago. The community of planetary defense has been looking up at the sky.
But as was generally anticipated, further sightings from observatories all over the world reduced the range of possible asteroid strikes and progressively ruled out the possibility of a direct impact.
According to the ESA, the threat level has decreased to 0.001%.
