On September 11, 2018, a bus driver named Carlos Hernan Correa Palacio, 53, lost his life after being hit at a crossing in the Saughton neighborhood of the city.
After acknowledging in a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court that they had violated health and safety regulations regarding the event, Edinburgh Trams Limited (ETL) was fined £240,000 last year.
The driver started slowing down the tram and ringing his bell many times when he saw Mr. Correa, according to testimony given in court.
Mr. Correa was killed when he deployed the emergency brake, which also activated the tram’s warning horn.
The braking system was operational and the tram was in good operating order.
