After England’s loss to Spain in the July Euro 2024 final, Gareth Southgate resigned, and the German, who has been unemployed since leaving Bayern in the summer, will take over as manager full-time.
In addition to being the third manager overall, after the Italian and the Swede, Sven-Goran Eriksson, Tuchel is the first non-English manager to take over since Fabio Capello resigned in 2012.
Since last month, Tuchel has been in contact with FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott.
Harry Kane, the captain of England, praised the prospect of Tuchel taking over before the decision was finalized.
Tuchel signed Kane, who scored 44 goals in 45 games during his greatest season to date.
The FA has not responded; however, Rob Dorsett of Sports stated that the association will confirm the appointment during a news conference on Wednesday at midday. Whether Tuchel himself will attend is unclear.
He described today’s developments as a “extraordinary situation, given the extra controversy that it’ll bring, and the rivalry between England and Germany that goes back so many decades” .
He called Tuchel’s salary “a significant pay-cut for a very decorated club manager” and said that he would make between £4.5 million and £5 million.
