The federal government is prepared to take severe measures against anyone who use social media to propagate hate speech and false information about public personalities and state institutions.
Reportedly, the government intends to stop the spread of harmful content on the internet by designating these people as “digital terrorists”.
“Those who spread propaganda against state institutions and personalities on social media will be considered digital terrorists,” according to sources.
The federal cabinet has been tasked with summarily approving a proposal that the Ministry of Law and Justice reportedly wrote. Additionally, this plan states that in order for courts to try such aspects under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), consent from the federal cabinet will be requested through circulation.
“Strict legal action will be taken against those elements spreading propaganda,” according to the sources.
Additional district and sessions judges, as well as civil judges East and West, will have the jurisdiction to rule over trials relating to digital terrorism under the PECA if granted by circulation from the federal cabinet. The purpose of this action is to provide prompt justice and speed up the judicial process.
