Moreover, some 40 tractors showed up in Cardiff Bay in spite of South Wales Police’s advice to demonstrators not to bring any.
Paul Thomas, a farmer from the Vale of Glamorgan, told News he drove his tractor to Cardiff because it was “a symbol of what [farmers] do”.
“Everybody was beeping their horns on their way through, we’ve had great support from the general public, which is great,” he said.
Plans outlined by the Welsh government would require farms in Wales to fulfill a number of environmental requirements in order to qualify for government subsidies.
Among other things, that means ensuring that trees cover 10% of farmland.
Farming unions are alerting the industry to the potential effects of this legislation.
