Days after threatening to retake the Panama Canal, President-elect Donald Trump has appointed a Florida politician as his ambassador to Panama.
This year, Florida’s representative to the Republican National Committee was Kevin Marino Cabrera, a Republican commissioner in Miami-Dade County who served throughout Trump’s 2020 campaign.
Trump said Cabrera “will do a fantastic job representing our Nation’s interests in Panama!” when he announced his choice in a post on his Truth Social network on Christmas Day.
Panama is “ripping us off” by charging shipping fees to utilize the Panama Canal, which is the primary route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, according to the president-elect’s repeated accusations.
At a gathering of conservative activists on Sunday, Trump declared: “The fees being charged by Panama are ridiculous, highly unfair.”
