Republican nominee and former US president Donald Trump skipped the presidential debate for the fifth time in favor of attending a town hall in Iowa.
Fox News aired the event in tandem with Wednesday night’s fifth primary debate, which pitted potential presidential candidates Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley against one another on topics including abortion restrictions and US support for Israel.
As the leading candidate for the November 2024 elections, Trump has consistently opted out of presidential debates, stating that the party should concentrate on the general elections. Critics perceive this as a ploy to divert attention from the happenings of his competitors.
