Dorset Police stated that the purpose of the 60-year-old woman’s arrest on Wednesday was “to enable us to establish whether there have been actions or omissions which are grossly negligent and gather as much information as we can about what has happened.”
In a previous update, police stated that the Gainsborough Care Home fatalities are being investigated as “unexplained” and that the “primary line of inquiry” is potential carbon monoxide poisoning.
The property was evacuated and seven people were sent to the hospital “as a precaution”.
There is no risk to the general public, according to the police, who were alerted at 7:16 a.m. on Wednesday.
Every resident—some in wheelchairs—was evacuated to a nearby church hall.
According to a representative for the care facility, resident welfare was its “over-riding priority” and that it had sent “extra staffing resources” throughout the event.
“Our condolences and sympathy are with those who have lost their lives in this tragic event,” stated Gary Suttle, a member of the Dorset Council.
He expressed gratitude to the townspeople for their “great community support” by bringing blankets into the chapel where people had been evacuated.
