It was a historic day for Israel, whose longest-serving prime leader is Benjamin Netanyahu. He is now the first active leader in the nation to testify as a defendant in a criminal case.
Furthermore, he took this action at a turbulent time for the area, when Israel is conducting attacks in Syria and the conflict in Gaza is still going on.
Amit Hadad, Netanyahu’s attorney, began the defense by characterizing his client as the target of a political witch hunt and the corruption trial as unfair.
He claimed that prosecutors “were pursuing a man, not investigating a crime.”
Netanyahu then made an effort to emphasize his political legacy while downplaying the importance of the accusations of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
