Last week, US President Donald Trump did not send his secretary of state to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in order to begin negotiations for a possible agreement to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He sent a man without even a diplomatic background to the Kremlin to deal with a huge geopolitical crisis.
Rather, Trump chose Steve Witkoff, his rich real estate developer, golf companion, and personal pal.
Witkoff is the president’s envoy to the Middle East. The billionaire, who was born in the Bronx, was “with [Putin] for a very extended period, like about three hours” last week, according to Trump, and was involved in talks about resolving a crisis in Eastern Europe.
