After Katie Boulter lost her singles match against Slovakia, Great Britain’s prospects of making it to the Billie Jean King Cup final for the first time since 1981 depend on the result of a decisive doubles encounter.
In Tuesday’s semi-final, British number two Emma Raducanu defeated Viktoria Hruncakova 6-4 6-4 to put her team in control.
Boulter then defeated Slovakian number one Rebecca Sramkova in an attempt to guarantee their spot in Wednesday’s final.
But as the best-of-three match went to the end, Britain’s top singles player lost 2-6 6-4 6-4.
This week, Heather Watson and Olivia Nicholls have been called upon for the first time, facing the Slovakian duo of Tereza Mihalikova and Hruncakova.
Awaiting the winners is Italy, led by Jasmine Paolini, the fourth-ranked player in the world.
