As part of its efforts to meet its annual tax target of over Rs12,970 billion, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has declared a significant crackdown on non-filers, starting on October 1.
In an effort to improve compliance, the FBR will send final tax letters to millions of non-filers.
Sources close to the FBR indicate that penalties could be applied to non-filers who travel overseas and that plans exist to cut off gas, power, and mobile SIM cards for noncompliant taxpayers. By September 30, taxpayers must file their income tax returns for the 2024 fiscal year; else, their withholding tax rates would quadruple.
