The former president, who is running as a Republican in November’s presidential election, is accused of utilizing fictitious allegations of voter fraud to taint the election results and keep President Joe Biden from being officially declared the victor.
The four charges are the same as those presented by Special Counsel Jack Smith the previous year, but the Supreme Court decided to exclude certain allegations from the case.
On Thursday, Mr. Trump was not present at the court in Washington, D.C., where his attorneys refuted the allegations against him.
While Mr. Trump has maintained that the case is politically motivated and intended to harm his campaign, Mr. Smith wants to proceed with it.
He requests a postponement until after the US vice president, Democrat Kamala Harris, is elected on November 5.
Judge Tanya Chutkan of the US District Court declared that she was “not concerned with the electoral schedule.”
