For a few weeks this season, Tommy DeVito, the quarterback for the New York Giants, was the talk of the NFL.
Despite the fact that injuries had decimated the team at almost every position, the New Jersey native became a hometown hero by leading the team to three victories and briefly keeping them in the playoff hunt.
As his notoriety grew, DeVito soon adopted the nickname “Tommy Cutlets”.
But he soon discovered that every success is accompanied by failure. By the end of the season, DeVito was supporting Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who was back in the starting lineup.
In a recent interview, DeVito told Fox News Digital that if it weren’t for his close-knit support system, he wouldn’t have been able to handle it as well. Additionally, he acknowledged his ability to stay at home.
“It was beneficial, but beneficial in that my social circle is small. My teammates, friends, and family were a huge help in getting me through it all. It goes without saying that I have never witnessed anything as bizarre as what happened, especially considering how quickly it did so. The marketing team and the agents handled a lot of that really well.”
“Being at home was a major factor, particularly at this time. They were able to relieve me of a lot of burdens, which allowed me to spend more time enjoying football and the moment rather than worrying about anything being too much to handle. Of course, having [Saquon Barkley] back here helps, as it allowed [him] to relieve a lot of the pressure. Everything went well. It was enjoyable to me. I simply keep working and getting ready for the next chance.”
DeVito concluded the year with 1,101, and he and Barkley have partnered with Marriott Bonvoy to provide two fans with the ultimate Super Bowl experience in Las Vegas next month.
Whether DeVito returns to the 53-man roster by the start of the upcoming regular season is unknown. However, it’s evident that Giants supporters fell in love with DeVito after this season and think he can somehow earn a spot on the team.
