Millwall goalie Liam Roberts has been defended by Crystal Palace attacker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who claims that “too much emotion makes you do crazy things.”
Mateta was kicked in the head by Roberts during Palace’s FA Cup victory on March 1st, requiring 25 stitches to repair his left ear.
The 27-year-old French striker was carried off the field on a stretcher and transported to the hospital, while Roberts was dismissed.
The 30-year-old Roberts apologized to Mateta that evening before becoming the victim of hate speech on social media.
External Mateta stated in an interview with Sports: “I told Liam that it was okay because it was football when he texted me when I was in the hospital. He expressed regret. He was concerned.
