In an attempt to undermine the Palestinian Authority (PA), the state of Israel has funded the formation of the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas, according to European Union foreign policy leader Josep Borrell’s statement on Friday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refuted claims made by some international media outlets and his rivals in Israel that his government actively supported Hamas in Gaza for years.
In a speech at the University of Valladolid, Borrell stated, “Yes, Hamas was financed by the government of Israel in an attempt to weaken the PA led by Fatah,” without going into further detail about the alleged financing.
