RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Police briefly detained the chief of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and senior officials of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday for “violating Section 144” before releasing them.
When opposition party leaders Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, and SIC Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza visited PTI founder Imran Khan at the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, they were arrested.
The PTI leaders frequently meet with Khan, the former prime minister who has been in prison for over a year, to talk about their political plans. Khan’s party is an associate of Raza’s SIC, and PTI parliamentarians are currently represented in parliament as SIC members.
