Toyota is now Haas’ “technical partner” after pulling its own F1 team out of the competition at the end of 2009.
Haas and Toyota announced that they would “share expertise and knowledge, as well as resources” in a joint statement.
It was stated that Haas would provide “technical expertise and commercial benefits” and Toyota would supply “design, technical, and manufacturing services”.
Beginning with the October 18–20 United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, Toyota branding will be seen on the Haas vehicles.
Having extended their partnership with the Italian team until 2028 earlier this year, Haas will continue to employ Ferrari power units.
Toyota’s head of Gazoo, the racing division, Tomoya Takahashi, stated that part of the agreement was to “cultivate drivers, engineers, and mechanics”.
Because of Honda’s involvement in Formula One, Toyota has recently found itself losing out on potential Japanese engineers and race drivers to compete with Honda, a source with knowledge of the agreement told BBC Sport.
Toyota thinks that participating in Formula One will enable it to combat this.
Ayao Komatsu, the principal of the Haas team, stated: “It’s just a mutually beneficial cooperation for both parties to have a global leader in the automotive industry support and collaborate with our organization while pursuing the growth and advancement of their own technological and engineering skills.
