Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh, stated on Sunday that police were educating their staff in electronic tagging of criminals and that they were actively working on this project.
On April 22, Sindh head Minister Murad Ali Shah gave the police head instructions to start e-tagging repeat offenders. He went on to say that four thousand gadgets should be used for a test project.
Standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulations for the e-tagging process were being developed, according to a report from the IGP.
The Sindh IG told Geo News that there were between 8,000 and 12,000 habitual offenders in Karachi, and that there were 400 street crime events every day on average.
