As his party investigates charges of party breach by parliamentarians, former Prime Minister Imran Khan declared on Tuesday that those who supported the 26th Constitutional Amendment had done treason against Pakistan.
He told reporters in the Adiala Jail, “I want to make it clear that anyone who voted for the 26th Constitutional Amendment has betrayed the nation and undermined the foundations of the Constitution of Pakistan.”
On October 21, the government passed constitutional reforms that gave parliamentarians additional authority to choose top judges. These justices have recently rendered a number of rulings that have favored Imran Khan, the leader of the opposition.
The nomination of Pakistan’s chief judge and the composition of benches were altered by the judicial reforms.
