Five Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR) horses were injured on April 24 during an exercise in Belgravia when they ran around the capital after being startled by debris that was thrown through a plastic tunnel.
The army stated that Tennyson, Trojan, and Vanquish demonstrated “aptitude and eagerness” when the horses were receiving “expert respite care” to help them heal.
Tennyson will be part of the elite Sovereign’s Escort, and Trojan and Vanquish will serve as the ceremonial guards at the official entry to the Royal Palaces, joining the King’s Life Guard at Horse Guards.
Tennyson has rejoined the military without a hitch,” 1 Troop Leader Captain Charles Carr-Smith stated.
Our less experienced riders will certainly be comforted to know that this magnificent horse will once again carry its rider cautiously down the Mall or canter off, leaping over log piles in Melton Mowbray, for daily exercise.
Vida and Quaker, the two other horses from the April incident that were gravely injured, are still under the care of The Horse Trust, a charity, and “will do so for as long as they need”.
Of the five motorcyclists injured in the incident, two are anticipated to return later, and three have recovered and are back on duty.
