KURRAM: As the number of fatal battles soared to 130, the Deputy Commissioner declared on Sunday that a ceasefire between two warring tribes in the restive district of Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had finally been achieved amid government efforts to reduce tensions.
In a statement, the DC stated without providing specifics, “Armed tribesmen were removed from the firing posts while police and forces have been deployed [in the region].”
At least 130 people have been killed and 186 injured in the most recent round of violence, which has lasted for 11 days in a row. The nocturnal firing has also taken six more lives and injured eight more.
The recent skirmishes started eight days ago when two different convoys were ambushed while being escorted by police.
