WASHINGTON—Pamela Bondi, a longtime ally and former Florida attorney general, was named the next US attorney general by President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday.
Following the controversial withdrawal of his former nominee, beleaguered Matt Gaetz, from consideration, the statement was made.
Gaetz was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly using illegal drugs and having sex with a 17-year-old female who was underage. Errors have been denied by him.
From 2011 until 2019, Bondi, 59, led law enforcement in the nation’s third-most populous state. During Trump’s first administration, he was a member of the Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission.
