WASHINGTON: In reaction to the province of Ontario’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on its power exports to the United States, President Donald Trump raised his planned tariffs on all imports of steel and aluminum products from Canada to 50% on Tuesday.
Trump said he has directed his commerce secretary to impose an additional 25% duty on the metals products, which will take effect Wednesday early, in a post on his Truth Social social media platform.
Additionally, Canada has to quickly remove their anti-American farmer tariff, which has long been seen as absurd and ranges from 250% to 390% on a variety of US dairy products. In the threatened area, I will soon be announcing a National Emergency on Electricity,” Trump tweeted.
