The US president-elect has refused to rule out using military action to grab Denmark’s independent territory, prompting Germany and France to warn Donald Trump against attacking Greenland.
“The principle of the inviolability of borders applies to every country… no matter whether it’s a very small one or a very powerful one,” stated German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“There is obviously no question that the European Union would let other nations of the world attack its sovereign borders,” stated Jean-Noël Barrot, the French foreign minister.
Trump reaffirmed his intention to buy Greenland on Tuesday, claiming that the Arctic territory was “critical” to both economic and national security.
He first suggested purchasing Greenland in 2019, during his first term as president, and has since shown a desire to do so on multiple occasions.
