“You can’t have a security detail for the rest of your life because you work for government,” Trump said in response to a question about the decision taken on Friday. “It’s very standard.”
Trump also removed security protections this week for former ambassador Brian Hook, former National Security Advisor John Bolton, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, all of whom were threatened by Iran.
According to US media, Dr. Fauci has now engaged his own private security firm, which he will finance himself.
On Friday, Trump responded, “They all made a lot of money,” when asked if he felt accountable for the officials’ safety. They are also able to hire their own protection.
Federal marshals first provided Dr. Fauci with protection, followed by a private security firm.
