OTTAWA: Amid political unrest in Ottawa, US President-elect Donald Trump said Wednesday that it would be “a great idea” for Canada to become the 51st US state, hinting on social media that “many Canadians” would embrace the concept.
Trump wrote, “Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State,” on Truth Social.
“Taxes and military protection would be greatly reduced. It’s a fantastic idea, in my opinion. “51st State!” he continued.
Trump has already made jokes about the concept in public, which some have deemed offensive, especially in the wake of Canada’s deputy prime minister’s unexpected departure on Monday.
According to a Leger public opinion study conducted this week, 13% of Canadians are in favor of connecting with
